Founded in 2017, Bloom Social Emotional Learning Program’s mission is to empower children by making social emotional education universally accessible, meaningful, and impactful through innovative instruction, creative arts, and mindfulness strategies. Bloom envisions vibrant communities filled with calm, engaged, well-rounded children that can naturally problem solve, think critically, and communicate with ease.
Bloom is committed to fostering a love of learning, developing positive social skills, enhancing academic skills, and cultivating creativity in the minds of children at every age. In our MSDE licensed community based learning center, our experienced staff helps to prepare every child for school and life by nurturing their imagination, and engaging with them in enjoyable learning experiences. Our unique curriculum combines standards based academic skills, age appropriate creative arts, and social emotional education. Our teachers build lessons and choose materials based upon individual learning levels and styles, to meet each child’s personal needs and help them achieve developmental milestones.
We believe that our staff is an extension of your family. Through daily communication and events, we build trust and partnership , between parents, caregivers, and our staff. We know that parents are their child’s first teachers and included every step of the way!
Keyaira Hughes is a highly effective educator with over13 years of experience working with children and their families in a variety of settings. In 2015, Ms. Hughes received her Masters degree in Early Childhood Education from Capella University. She has also completed extensive training in Social Emotional Learning and Arts Integration through programs such as Second Step and Turnaround Arts.
Ms. Hughes noticed an increase of challenging behaviors in her classroom that often disrupted learning. Being solutions based, Hughes began incorporating mindfulness strategies into her student’s daily routine such as yoga, meditation, and journaling. She also focused on cultivating a calm environment by using soothing music, aroma therapy, and creating a classroom “Zen Zone” where children could go to process their intense emotions. Over time, she saw a decrease in explosive behaviors, improved social interactions, and academic growth from many of her students. In 2017, Keyaira Hughes founded the nonprofit organization Bloom Social Emotional Learning Program in efforts to make social emotional learning universally accessible to marginalized communities. In 2020, Hughes partnered with Shinell Byfield to open Bloom Learning Center in Baltimore City, where she continues to teach, develop professional develop opportunities for educators, and be a contributing citizens to her community.
